geography

Oberlibbach is located in the Taunus ( western Hintertaunus ), north of the Taunus main ridge between Limburg and the state capital Wiesbaden . The Libbach runs through the village . The federal highway 417 runs to the east at a short distance from the town . Today's federal highway was known as Hühnerstrasse around 1000 and was an important trade route . State road 3274 runs through the village .

The place is in the Rhein-Taunus nature park . The highest point of the district Oberlibbach and at the same time of all of Hünstetten is to be found at about 460  m on the border to Ehrenbach on the western slope of the wooded summit of the Scheid ( 471.9  m ). The southern boundary of the district follows the course of the Roman Limes, which is not visible as a ground monument at this point, for about 1000 meters .

Neighboring towns are Niederlibbach (west), Hambach (southwest), Ehrenbach (east) and Kesselbach (north).

history

The first settlements can be traced back to the Hallstatt period, i.e. around 500 BC. The first documentary mention, together with the neighboring town Niederlibbach, took place in 1184. This is a document with which Pope Lucius III. the Bleidenstadt monastery confirmed the ownership of the towns of Strinz-Margarethä and Strinz-Trinitatis , but in which a Lidelbach is also mentioned.

The existence of two Libbach locations is clearly proven for the first time in 1360. In Oberlibbach there was a courtyard of the Bleidenstadt monastery. In 1566, 15 households are recorded, for 1710 35 inhabitants.

Territorial reform

In the course of administrative reform in Hesse until then independent municipality Oberlibbach was previously on a voluntary basis for six months newly formed community Hünstetten 1 July 1972 incorporated . For Oberlibbach, as for the other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed.

Old school

Old school Oberlibbach

The first school was built in 1750.

In 1894 after the dissolution of the school association with Oberlibbach and Hambach that had emerged from the parish , a new school was built. The listed building is an original, independent type of village school for the area. The two-storey half-timbered building with an L-shaped floor plan is completely slated. The slate ornamentally emphasizes the window axes. The facade is divided into four, three and two regular axes with narrow, vertical-format windows. The house was used as a school until 1969 and is now a residential building.

In addition to the old school, there is another cultural monument in Oberlibbach: the fountain. The cast iron trough of a village well from around 1900 was probably produced in the Michelbacher Hütte . The Laufbrunnen stands today next to the former town hall, near the Libbach, which is built over here. For background information, see cast iron fountains in the Taunus .

Buildings

The former town hall is now used by the volunteer fire brigade . The village community center , the Libbach-Halle, is located in the new development area on the southern edge of the village . A memorial stone next to the town hall commemorates the village's 800th anniversary.
