DR Congo license plate

The current license plates of the Democratic Republic of the Congo were introduced in 2009. The signs are based on the layout of the Euro plate , but differ slightly from the European standard dimensions (520 × 110 mm) at 480 × 112 mm. On the left, they show the national flag of the DR Congo and the nationality symbol CGO . The combination consists of four digits followed by two letters. On the right edge there are two digits in a separate field that indicate the precise origin of the vehicle. In addition, there is a so-called third license plate in the form of an 84 × 53 mm sticker on the front window of the vehicle. He repeats the combination of the plates and shows the vehicle identification number of the vehicle. The license plates are produced by an offshoot of the German Utsch AG and have various security features that are supposed to make counterfeiting more difficult. For example, there is a hologram film with the words Authentic on all letters . Similar measures can also be found in the license plates of Egypt and Kyrgyzstan, also produced by Uch .

history

License plate until 1980

Originally, the license plates of the DR Congo had yellow letters on a blue background. They started with a yellow star, followed by a letter or two. A maximum of four digits appeared after a period. After the state was renamed Zaire in 1971, the license plates were also changed nine years later. The color scheme changed from yellow to green according to the flag. At the beginning there were two provincial letters, followed by four digits and one more letter. Initially ZR , later ZRE, was used as the nationality symbol . The renaming of Zaire in DR Congo in 1997 led to yellow license plates with black letters (430 × 105 mm) and two letters at the end. Parallel to the flag, the original colors yellow were later reverted to blue. Until the introduction of the current system, the license plates showed the provincial letters, an asterisk, four digits and two letters.
