The Kimbiri district is located in the La Convención province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on May 4, 1990. It has an area of 788 km². In the 2017 census, 15,962 people lived in the district. The district administration is located in the town of Kimbiri on the east bank of the Río Apurímac at the confluence of the Río Kimbiri at an altitude of 739 m . There is an important road bridge over the river there.
Geographical location
The district of Kimbiri is located in the central west of the province of La Convención. The district extends over a length of about 34 km over the eastern river valley of the Río Apurímac. In the east, the district boundary runs mainly along the watershed of the northern Cordillera Vilcabamba , which there reaches heights of up to 4185 m .
The district of Kimbiri borders in the north on the district Pichari , in the east on the district Echarati and in the south on the district Villa Kintiarina . To the west, on the opposite bank of the Río Apurímac, are the districts of Anchihuay , Samugari , Santa Rosa and Ayna (all four in the province of La Mar in the Ayacucho region ).
