Kirowski ( Russian Ки́ровский ) is an urban-type settlement in Astrakhan Oblast ( Russia ) with 2249 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located in the Caspian Depression , in the Volga Delta a good 50 km south of the Astrakhan Oblast Administrative Center , on the left bank of the Nikitinsky Bank of the Volga arm.
Kirowski belongs to the Kamysjak Rajon and is about 30 km south of the Kamysjak administrative center.
history
The place was initially called Nikitinskije promysli, after the arm of the Volga flowing there; promysly , something like 'fishing companies', referred to the local fishing industry. In 1934 it was named after the murdered politician Sergei Kirov and in 1938 received urban-type settlement status.

Economy and Infrastructure
The main industry is fishing and processing. Kirovsky is the end point of a road coming from Astrakhan, which initially leads as regional road R214 to the district center of Kamysjak and continues on the left bank of the Volga arms of Kamysjak, Artelnaya and Nikitsky Bank.
