Volgo-Kaspijski ( Russian Во́лго-Каспи́йский ) is an urban-type settlement in the Astrakhan Oblast ( Russia ) with 2581 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located in the Caspian Depression , in the Volga Delta about 20 km as the crow flies south-southwest of the center of the oblast capital, Astrakhan . It is located on the (nominal) main arm of the Volga (also known as the Old Volga ) immediately below its separation from the large right estuary Bachtemir.
Volgo-Kaspijski belongs to the Kamysjak Rajon and is about 15 km to the northwest from its administrative center Kamysjak .
history
The place was created during the German-Soviet War in connection with the construction of a repair shipyard , which went into operation in 1943. It was initially called Sudoremsawod , the short form of sudoremontny zavod , Russian for 'ship repair yard' (literally - 'factory' ). In 1966 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name, which corresponds to the name of the shipyard, Volgo-Kaspijski sudoremontny zavod , so Volga- Caspian ship repair plant .

Economy and Infrastructure
The building company is the Volga-Caspian Ship Repair Plant (Wolgo-Kaspijski sudoremontny sawod) , today an open joint stock company (OAO).
Volgo-Kaspijski can only be reached by road using a car ferry from the left bank of the Old Volga, to which a road from Astrakhan leads.
