Kamysjak ( Russian Камызяк ) is a city in the Astrakhan Oblast ( Russia ) with 16,314 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the Caspian basin , the Volga Delta of Oblasthauptstadt km south about 35 Astrakhan below where the on the Volga -Mündungsarm Kisan into the arms Kamyzyak and Tabola branched.
Kamysjak is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
Kamysjak is connected to Astrakhan by a road.
history
Kamysjak was founded in the 17th century as a small fishing settlement, was given the status of an independent village ( Selo ) in 1918 and town charter on February 2, 1973. The name is from the Kazakh words kamys for cornices and osek / usjak for Bayou derived.

Culture, education and sights
One of the parts of the Astrakhan Sapovednik nature reserve extends south of the city . It was founded in 1919, is since 1975 as a wetland of international importance by the Ramsar Convention , and since 1984 as a UNESCO - Biosphere Reserve recognized.
There are several archaeological monuments in the area: the remains (" Gorodishche ") of the Samosdelka settlement and the Karakol and Bolshoi Khadji burial mounds .
The Scientific Research Institute for Vegetable and Pumpkin Cultivation Irrigation Management is located in Kamysjak ( НИИ орошаемого овощеводства и бахчеводства ).
economy
Kamysjak is the center of an agricultural area (rice, fruit, melons; poultry, cattle). Companies in the food industry are based on this ( Kamris rice processing , Kamos canning factory ). There is also a fishing industry in the Rajon.
