Ikrjanoje ( Russian Икряное ) is a village (selo) in Astrakhan Oblast in Russia with 10,036 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is in the Volga Delta about 40 km as the crow flies southwest of the Astrakhan Oblast Administrative Center . It is located on the right bank of the extreme right (western) of the great estuary arms of the Volga , Bachtemir. At Ikrjanoje this is connected to another flowing arm a few kilometers to the west, the Churdun.

Ikrjanoje is the administrative center Rajons Ikrjaninski and seat of the rural community selsowet (selskoje posselenije) Ikrjaninski, also belongs to the village Borkino (8 km southwest).

history

Settlements in the area of ​​today's village have been known since the middle of the 18th century. The actual place where it is today was created in 1807 after the lands were acquired by the Greek-born nobleman Iwan Varvakis . It got its name after the Ikrjanka watercourse there, whose name is derived from the Russian ikra for caviar , an important product of the region.

Since July 14, 1925, Ikrjanoje has been the administrative seat of a Rajon.

Ikrjanoje is on the R215 highway , which runs from Astrakhan, where the nearest train station is, along the northwestern bank of the Caspian Sea through eastern Kalmykia to the capital of Dagestan Makhachkala .
