geography

location

The place is located in Upper Lusatia and is surrounded by the villages of Nedaschütz in the north, Semmichau in the south-east and Spittwitz in the south-west.

geomorphology

The relief is wavy and sloping to the north. The Saxon natural area structure describes the region as the Upper Lusatian region . It is part of the natural region of the Saxon Loess Field , which in the Kleinpraga area only has a north-south extension of about 15 kilometers and narrows further to the east. The relatively flat Upper Lusatian heath and pond area borders to the north, and the Upper Lusatian highlands to the south .

Today’s treasure trove of forms emerged predominantly in the Quaternary period, particularly under the influence of the last ice ages . It includes channels, trough valleys and loess slabs and ridges. Kleinpraga lies east of the black water on a plateau about 25 m above the river. This flows here through the Spittwitzer Skala , a rock valley. The place is thus in the catchment area of the Elbe .

geology

The settlement lies entirely on Elsterzeit ground moraine sediments . These sediments, which are very young from a geological point of view, overlay a Cadomian- Cambrian granodiorite . These storage conditions mark a pronounced layer gap between the Cambrian and the Quaternary , which in this form only arose with the erosion processes of the Ice Ages. The granodiorite is in the nearby Spittwitz scale.

climate

The region lies in the cool, temperate transition zone between oceanic and continental climates (according to Troll and Paffen) or the temperate climate zone with transitional climate according to Neef . The annual mean temperature of 8.5 ° C for Bautzen should roughly correspond to that of Kleinpraga. July is the warmest month with an average of 18.2 ° C and January is the coldest month with −1.2 ° C. With a corresponding general weather situation, cold air flowing in from the Bohemian Basin can also reach temperatures down to −15 ° C. This phenomenon is popularly known as the “Bohemian wind”. The mean annual precipitation is between 670 and 690 mm due to the rain shadow of the Oberlausitzer Bergland. This means that the area has relatively little rainfall. The wettest month is July with a long-term average with 80 to 90 mm, the wettest month is January with about 40 mm.

vegetation

The potential natural vegetation in the locality consists of typical hornbeam and sessile oak forest . Without human influence, a bird cherry-alder-ash forest would develop in the Schwarzwassertal. However, there are real existing trees only in the north and west.

natural reserve

The Schwarzwassertal is an FFH area in the Kleinpraga area.

The farming hamlet of Kleinpraga was first mentioned in 1377 as Podmaklicz. The name Praga first appears in 1566. Around 1556 it was under the rule of Gaussig , from 1580 at the latest under that of Nedaschütz. The strong bond with Nedaschütz is characteristic, as the place to this day only consists of two farmsteads and four small properties and can therefore hardly act independently. Consequently, in 1935, both places were incorporated into Coblenz . Since March 1st, 1994 the places belong to the municipality of Göda. Kleinpraga has belonged to the parish of Göda since ancient times. Remains of the old road from Göda to Meißen exist a little north of the houses .

Population and language

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 37 in the 1880s, including all Sorbian-speaking residents.

Land use

Almost the entire area is used for agriculture, since the soils with arable values between 55 and 70 are quite productive. From 1973 the LPG Göda was responsible for the management. For some time, laying hens were kept on the western side of the two farms.

Infrastructure

Kleinpraga is located on the district road 7278. The state road 111 Bischofswerda - Bautzen runs south of the village , and the federal motorway 4 runs north . The next train station is Seitschen . Due to this relatively favorable location, there is now a modern commercial complex with storage space and a restaurant in one of the courtyards.
