The Lehmberg is a 1027  m above sea level. A. high summit in the Austrian state of Salzburg directly on the Upper Austrian border. Not far to the east is the Kolomanstaferl ( 1010  m above sea level ) as a landmark.

Location and landscape

The wooded hilltop lies between Wallersee , Irrsee (Zellersee) and Thalgau in the Kolomansberg massif , the eastern group of the Mondsee Flysch Mountains and northwest of the Salzburg Prealps . It is hardly visible in the Gratzug. Here branches off from the main ridge of the massif, which runs from the Kolomansberg summit ( 1114  m above sea level ) northwards in the Irrsberg on the edge of the Alps, a good 1½ kilometers to the south , that ridge that crosses the Große Plaike ( 1034  m above sea level ) in Zifanken ends above Henndorf am Wallersee . The mountain thus forms the central point of the massif. The mountain forms the municipal boundary between Thalgau and Neumarkt am Wallersee , the state border passes almost 500 meters to the east at shoulder height Kolomanstaferl .

Geology and hydrography

Geologically, the Lehmberg belongs to the flysch zone , it consists of Oberkreideflysch, namely in the summit area Altlengbach Formation ( Maastrichtian - Thanetium , Wende Kreide / Paleocene, 70-50 million years), north and east of it, however, partly cement marl series ( Coniacium - Campanium , approx . 90–70 million years old) This fold is typical for the Mondsee Flysch Mountains and is repeated several times up to the edge of the Alps.

To the south the Fischbach drains towards Thalgau to the Fuschler Ache (Griesler Ache) and to the Mondsee . To the east, the Hausstätter Graben goes directly to the Irrsee, which also drains to the Mondsee. The Steinbach rises to the north and flows into the Wallersee via Neumarkt . The summit thus also forms the watershed between the Salzach region (towards the Inn ) and the Ager catchment area (towards the Traun ). The Irrsee / Zeller Ache watershed to Fuschler (Griesler) Ache, the two main feeders of the Mondsee, is located at the Kolomanstaferl and goes from there to the Kolomansberg summit.

Ways and culture

The mountain is easily accessible from all sides on forest roads and various hiking trails. The Arnoweg (stage 58 Thalgau - Irrsdorf ) and Via Nova (connection parts 4 and 5 from Neumarkt via Sommerholz or from Henndorf past the Große Plaike or mountain variant from Irrsdorf; and from here to Mondsee ) run along the ridge .

The Kolomanstaferl is an old hallway monument that, like the entire Kolomansberg and the Kolomansbergkirche, reminds of the Holy Koloman . It also marks the old parish and judicial boundaries. Such monuments (crosses, picture trees) can be found on the ridge of the Kolomansbergs, especially the attachment of death boards to trees is still common here today, the custom is best preserved in the death board forest on the Thalgauberg below.
