Rudolf Konrad von Wegerer (born January 18, 1822 in Reetz ; † November 18, 1891 in Hirschberg ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade .

Life

Konrad was a son of the Prussian major Karl von Wegerer (1770-1835) and his wife Christiane, born von Normann (1784-1859). His older brother was the Prussian Lieutenant General August Ferdinand von Wegerer (1812-1887).

Military career

Wegerer attended the city ​​school in Reetz and received private lessons in Stargard . On July 11, 1839, he joined the 25th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer and was promoted to second lieutenant by early January 1842 . As such, he was in command of the 8th Combined Reserve Battalion for one year from October 1845. When the Baden Revolution was suppressed in 1849, Wegerer took part in the battles at Graben and Kuppenheim as well as the siege of Rastatt and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords , for his work . In mid-November 1850 he was commanded as adjutant of the mobile 31st Division and then in the same capacity with the 2nd Battalion in the 25th Landwehr Regiment. Wegerer acted from June 1854 to May 1856 regimental djutant and rose in the meantime to prime lieutenant . For a short time he served as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion in the 25th Landwehr Regiment in Jülich , before being promoted to captain in the 22nd Infantry Regiment on May 31, 1859 . From late November 1859 to late June 1860 Wegerer was in command as a company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 22nd Landwehr Regiment in Gleiwitz . This was followed by employment as a company commander in the Magdeburg Jäger Battalion No. 4 and in the Westphalian Fusilier Regiment No. 37 . While being promoted to major , Wegerer was transferred to the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 on April 12, 1866 , took part in the battle near Dobruška during the German War and was in command of the Schweidnitz occupation battalion for a few months .

After the peace agreement was made on September 30, 1866, he was appointed commander of the 1st battalion. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 26, 1870 , led his battalion in the war against France during the siege of Paris and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. As a colonel , Wegerer was from February 10, 1872 to January 1, 1877, in command of the 5th East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 41 in Königsberg . With a patent from September 20, 1876, he was promoted to major general on January 2, 1877 and appointed commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, which was also stationed in Königsberg. In this position, Kaiser Wilhelm I awarded him the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Ring in early September 1879. On March 12, 1881 Wegerer was put up for disposal with a pension .
