August Ferdinand von Wegerer (born April 30, 1812 in Silberberg , † June 25, 1887 in Crampas ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

August Ferdinand was the son of the Prussian major Karl von Wegerer (1770-1835) and his wife Christiane, born von Normann (1784-1859). His younger brother was the Prussian major general Konrad von Wegerer (1822-1891).

Military career

Wegerer visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on July 29, 1829, he was transferred to the 14th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a Portepeefähnrich. In mid-February 1831 he was transferred as a second lieutenant to Thorn in the 37th Infantry Regiment (5th Reserve Regiment) and in 1834/37 he completed the General War School for further training . From the end of September 1839 to 1848 Wegerer also worked as a teacher at the division school of the 16th Division , in the meantime advanced to Prime Lieutenant and on December 19, 1848 was promoted to Captain Chief of the 2nd Company. After a year-long assignment to the training infantry battalion, he was transferred to the staff of the 20th Infantry Regiment in Torgau on May 23, 1857 while being promoted to major . On October 24, 1857, Wegerer received command of the Fusilier Battalion stationed in Brandenburg an der Havel and rose in this position on October 18, 1861 to lieutenant colonel . This was followed on January 9, 1864, as a commander of the East Prussian Fusilier Regiment No. 33 in Cologne and on June 25, 1864, the promotion to colonel .

Wegerer led his association in 1866 during the war against Austria at the Elbarmee in the battles near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . For his work, King Wilhelm I signed him on September 20, 1866 with the swords for the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class off.
