history
The settlement was established in 1939 in the course of the development of hard coal deposits . From 1939 to 1945 the place belonged, like the entire southern part of the island (up to the 50th parallel) as Kusunokiyama ( Japanese 楠 山 , Hiragana く す の き や ま ) to the Japanese Empire . After the Second World War , the place came back to the Soviet Union and was given its current name in 1947 in honor of the Soviet Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR and People's Commissar of the Coal Industry Vasily Vakhrushev .
Already during the Japanese occupation, a narrow-gauge railway was built from the coastal village of Lermontowka ( Лермонтовка ) to Vostok ( Восток ) and later extended to the Vakhrushev open-cast coal mine (Vakhrushev -Ugolny railway station , Вахрушев-Уголно ). The nine-kilometer railway was used to supply the Sakhalin thermal power station ( Сахалинская ГРЭС / Sakhalinskaja GRES) located in Lermontowka with hard coal.
On October 2, 2006 the municipality ( муниципальное образование / municipal entity) Wachrushev district ( Городской округ "Вахрушев" ) was created with Wachrushev as an administrative center and separated from the Poronaegsky rajon. In order to further administrative reform, the community was Stadtkreis Wachruschew back into the community 27 July 2012 Stadtkreis Poronaisk ( Городской округ "Поронайский" ), under the new name community Stadtkreis Poronaisk ( Поронайский городской округ , incorporated).
