László Székely (architect)
László Székely (born August 3, 1877 in Nagyszalonta , Hungary ; † January 23, 1934 in Timișoara , Romania ) was a Hungarian architect .
Life
After completing school in his hometown Salonta, Székely went to Budapest , where he completed his architecture studies at the Technical and Economic University . There he found a mentor in Alajos Hauszmann . After completing his studies, he received a scholarship in Italy .
After his return he worked for Czigler Győzőunui , one of the leading architects in Budapest of his time. Székely was recommended under the mayor of the then Temesvár , Karoly Telbisz , for the newly created position of chief architect . In 1903 the authorities entrusted him with the construction of the modern Abator Comunal slaughterhouse as his first order. During his career he designed and built a number of other well-known buildings in Timișoara, including municipal buildings, factories, apartment buildings and villas.
Székely worked in the city for nearly two decades. At the same time he ran his own architectural office, which worked for private and religious communities in Timișoara as well as in other parts of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy . The buildings he carried out were predominantly eclectic in style, rich in elements from the Baroque and Art Nouveau periods, such as the Vienna Secession .

Honors
- On June 25, 2002 László Székely was posthumously awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Timișoara .
