List of governors and governors in Styria
The list of governors and governors gives an overview of the highest politicians and officials of the state of Styria , duchy until 1918, then federal state, from 1940 to 1945 Reichsgau (with different borders).
The rulers were the reigning (arch) dukes of Austria (the only woman in this position was Maria Theresa from 1740–1780), 1804–1918 in personal union as Emperor of Austria . The highest liege lord of the Duchy of Styria was the Roman-German king until 1806, but since the 16th century at the latest, this has always been a Habsburg in personal union.
Since 1920, the formal head of state has been the incumbent Austrian Federal President , and the provincial head the incumbent governor.
