Lauffen is a market in the Inner Salzkammergut in Upper Austria as well as a locality and cadastral community of the town of Bad Ischl in the Gmunden district .

geography

Lauffen is located in a narrow valley of the Traun on the eastern slope of the Katergebirge at an altitude of 490 m. The area of the cadastral community is 1.22 km².

history

Lauffen in the Topographia Provinciarum Austriacarum by Matthäus Merian (1679)

Lauffen appears for the first time as louppa 807. In 1117 a curtis Loufin sita appears among the possessions of the Nonnberg monastery in Salzburg . The name refers to the rapids (mhd. Loufe ) in the Traun. In 1344, Duke Albrecht II confirmed a document from King Rudolf I of Habsburg (approx. 1275/80) to the citizens of Lauffen , in which they were granted the same rights as the citizens of Gmunden. This makes Lauffen the oldest market in the inner Salzkammergut, as Hallstatt was only raised to market in 1311. The reason for the establishment of the market was presumably the increase in the salt trade in the 2nd half of the 13th century, to which two towers were built in Lauffen. Approx. In 1311/1313 Duchess (from 1299 Queen) Elisabeth granted 5 citizens of Lauffen the right to make salt. 1344 the parish church for the first time explicitly mentioned ( vnser Vrowen chürchen ) for which the Lauffener citizens of each passing Zille could collect a penny salt. However, Lauffen only became an independent parish in the second half of the 16th century. Until then, Lauffen was subordinate to the pastor von Goisern .

There has been evidence of tolls for roads, roads and bridges in Lauffen since the 15th century . In 1537 the passage through the Wild Lauffen was made easier by blasting large rocks in the river and a raft lane was created. A cable winch ( Wynde am Lawfenstain ) has been used since around 1390 , with which barges traveling upstream could be pulled over the rapids. Salt shipping ended with the opening of the state railway from Attnang-Puchheim to Stainach-Irdning on October 23, 1877. A few years before 1899, small excursion boats for spa guests ran from Bad Ischl / Esplanade to Lauffen / Gasthof Weißes Rössl , with a capacity of up to 14 people.

In 1849 Lauffen, with its 399 residents and 71 houses, was to be incorporated into the Goisern community. At the request of the residents, however, the market was finally incorporated into Ischl (the same only since 1906 Bad ). Nevertheless, around 1850, the market town is still mentioned as the main town of the Salzkammergut, along with Ischl - and the Salzbergamt zu Gmunden .

In the last few decades the infrastructure has been massively thinned out: the elementary school closed in 1977, the last shop closed in 2001 and the Lauffen post office (zip code 4821), which had existed since 1870, was also closed in 2002. However, the abandonment of the train stop could be prevented.

Due to the poor condition of some of the buildings in the center - due to the decline of the place - Lauffen served as the backdrop for the film adaptation of the novel Bad Fucking in 2013 .

Seal and coat of arms

coat of arms

The right to seal is in a letter from Albrecht VI. First mentioned on September 29, 1460. The oldest hand drawing of the coat of arms dates from the year 1720. The coat of arms shows a black and yellow striped salt barn in the river on a blue background, in which there are two shipmen clad in reddish brown skirts, black hats, trousers and blue socks. The skipper in front controls the oar with both hands, the one behind with his left hand. With his right hand he obviously points to the "Wild Lauffen". The market colors, which were only awarded in 2012, are derived from the coat of arms, black - yellow - blue.
