Career

society

Leanne Ross began her career with the Falkirk Girls before joining the Newburgh Ladies . In 2007 he moved to Glasgow City LFC . With Glasgow she was instant Scottish champion 2007/08. Further championship titles followed in 2008/09, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. She also won the Scottish Cup with Glasgow in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup in those years . In the last season of the UEFA Women's Cup , she failed with her team in the second round. In the first season of the UEFA Women's Champions League , the end of the qualification came when they finished second behind the German runner-up FC Bayern Munich at the tournament in Šiauliai ( Lithuania ) . A year later they failed in the qualifying tournament at the German runner-up FCR 2001 Duisburg , in 2011/12 the knockout round was reached, where they advanced to the second round, but again it was a German club, this time the 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , who got the upper hand with 10-0 and 7-0. In the following season, the sixteenth finals, this time against Danish champions Fortuna Hjørring , was the last stop when they lost the home game 2-1 and only achieved a goalless draw in the second leg. Then it reached the last sixteen, where they failed at the English champions Arsenal . In 2014/15 they even reached the quarter-finals. There they had no chance against Paris Saint-Germain . In the 2015/16 season, English champions Chelsea were stronger in the sixteenth finals. 2016/17 ended again in the round of 32, this time both games were lost against Eskilstuna United (0: 1 and 1: 2). In 2017/18 they were eliminated due to the away goals rule against BIIK Kazygurt. After a 3-0 away defeat in the round of 32, they won at home with the same goal difference, but at 4-1 they allowed a goal that led to the end. In 2018/19 they first had to qualify, which was achieved at a tournament in their home stadium. They then survived the round of 32 against Somatio Barcelona FA although they lost 0-1 at home, but they had won the away game 2-0. In the second round it went to Barcelona again, but the women of FC Barcelona were stronger and won 5-0 and 3-0.

National team

Leanne played several games for the Scottish U-19 team, but was unable to continue playing at that age due to a broken foot. Ross made his debut for the Scottish national football team on April 26, 2006 against Switzerland in qualifying for the 2007 World Cup . She was immediately a regular player and was only missing once in the following 82 games. On March 27, 2010, she scored her first international goal to make it 3-1 in the World Cup qualifier against Georgia.

In December 2011 she was one of the Scottish players who were considered for Team GB , who were to represent the United Kingdom at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . Ultimately, however, it was not taken into account.

In September and October 2012, four games took place without her, including the playoff games in the European Championship qualifier against Spain, for which she was nominated and played for Glasgow in the UEFA Women's Champions League between the first two and the last . This was followed by 17 games in a row and only after her 100th appearance on December 18, 2013 at the four-nation tournament in Brazil against Chile , she was once again not used in the game for third place. In August 2014, an injury-related break followed, which also meant that she missed the playoff semi-finals in qualifying for the 2015 World Cup against the Netherlands. She was back on board in February 2015, but has only made 11 appearances in the 15 games since then.

For a European Championship or World Cup finals, she has not yet qualified with Scotland. In qualifying for the Euro 2009 they failed in the playoffs to Russia , in qualifying for Euro 2013 in the playoffs with a last-minute goal to Spain and in qualifying for the 2015 World Cup in the first round of the playoffs Dutch women . It went better in qualifying for the 2017 European Championship : with seven wins and only one defeat, Scotland qualified second in the group for the finals in the Netherlands. There she only had one use in the first half in the 1-0 win against Spain in the last group game. Since they had lost the first two games, the Scottish women were eliminated. After the EM, she announced her resignation from the national team.
