Linluo ( Chinese  麟洛鄉 , Pinyin Linluo Xiang , Hokkien Lai Po hiong ) is a rural municipality in Pingtung County on Taiwan ( Republic of China ).

location

Linluo is centrally located in the Pingtung Plain , a large alluvial plain that extends west of the Taiwan Central Mountains. The municipality has an approximately wedge-shaped shape, with the tip of the wedge pointing towards the southwest. The largest longitudinal extension is just over 7 kilometers. In terms of area, Linluo is the third smallest municipality in Pingtung County (after Liuqiu and Linbian ). The neighboring parishes are Pingtung in the west, Changzhi in the north, Neipu in the east and Zhutian in the south.

history

The place name comes from the Qing period and is probably derived from the mythological auspicious "Chinese unicorn" Qilin ( 麒麟 , Qílín ). The original village of Linle ( 麟 樂 庄 , Línlè zhuāng , free 'village of the happy unicorn') became the village of Linluo ( 麟洛 庄 , Línluò zhuāng ) in the Japanese era in 1920 , which initially belonged administratively to today's Changzhi municipality. After the island of Taiwan was transferred to the Republic of China , the administration was reorganized and the city of Pingtung was enlarged to include the area of the present-day communities of Changzhi and Linluo and became an independent city. Another reorganization took place in 1950. Changzhi and Linluo were separated from Pingtung City, and the city again lost its county freedom. In return, it became the capital of the newly established district of the same name. Linluo was separated from Changzhi in 1955 and set up as a separate community.

population

According to official statistics, 65 people (around 0.6%) belonged to the indigenous peoples at the end of 2018.
