Linbian ( Chinese 林 邊 鄉 , Pinyin Línbiān Xiāng , W.-G. Lin 2 -pian 1 Hsiang 1 , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Nâ-piⁿ-hiong or Nâ-á-piⁿ [ 林 仔 邊 ]; Pha̍k-fa- SU : LIM Pien-hiong ) is a rural municipality in Pingtung County on Taiwan ( Republic of China ).
location
Linbian is located on the southwest coast of Taiwan, bordering the slightly larger port city of Donggang to the east . The municipality has approximately the shape of an isosceles acute-angled triangle , the tip of which points towards the northeast, with a leg length of 7 kilometers and a base length of 4 kilometers. In terms of area, Linbian is the third smallest municipality in the Pingtung district with 15.6233 km². The terrain is flat and without any major elevations. The eastern boundary of the municipality is essentially formed by the Linbian river of the same name ( 林 邊 溪 , Línbiān Xī ). The neighboring communities are Jiadong in the east, Nanzhou in the north and Donggang in the west.
history
In 1755 a Han Chinese settlement was established. This settlement bore the Min Nan name Nâ-á-pinn ( 林 仔 邊 , Hanyu Pinyin Línzǐbiān ), which means “located on the edge of the forest” and referred to the abundant forests in the area at that time. At the time of Japanese rule (1895-1945), the village of Linbian ( 林 邊 庄 , Chinese. Línbiān Zhuāng , Japanese. Rinpen Shō ) was formed in 1920 . After the Republic of China took over Taiwan in 1945, it became the rural community ( 鄉 , Xiāng ) Linbian, initially in the newly formed Kaohsiung County and from 1950 in Pingtung County, which was separated from it . In March 1951, the Nanzhou community was newly formed from the northern parts of Linbian.
population
According to official statistics, 112 people (around 0.6%) belonged to the indigenous peoples at the end of 2017.
