List of newspapers with the highest circulation

This list shows the daily newspapers with the highest circulation worldwide. The figures come from the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Circulations (IFABC), the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) or directly from the publishers. Free newspapers are not included in the list.

The circulation figures are not always comparable, as the reported figures are determined according to different rules for each control instance. In Germany, the information community for determining the distribution of advertising media (IVW) determines the corresponding circulation and reports the circulation (i.e. the circulation sold plus free copies) to the IFABC.

In Austria, the Austrian Community Association to determine the distribution of advertising media / Austrian circulation control (ÖAK) determines the data from the sold circulation + self-service weekdays + other paid circulation + free distribution + international circulation and reports them to the IFABC.

In addition, the information provided by Japanese publishers has been openly questioned in the past. They were accused of keeping their numbers artificially high. According to reports from the British newspaper The Guardian , the Wall Street Journal has also artificially increased its circulation figures using unclean methods.
