The list of fire disasters in the Île-de-France lists fires in the greater Paris area ( Île-de-France ). There have already been several devastating fire disasters in the history of Paris . Due to dense development, old building fabric, which is easily combustible due to the materials used and does not comply with modern fire protection guidelines and overcrowding of the apartments due to high rents, devastating fire disasters with many fatalities occur again and again. Furthermore, smoke detectors have only been required by law since January 1, 2016. In 2010 fires in Paris and the Petite Couronne alone killed 54 people.
