Since the conquest by the Franks was Schwaben / Alamannia in districts divided, each one counts were subordinated. Many of the names from that time have been used as landscape names to this day. The county districts again split up into Teilgaue , whose names have also partially held. The -w- in -gowe is an elongation-w , from -uu- .

Between Hochburgund and Alemannia / Swabia was the Argowe area (today Aargau , by the river Aare) whose affiliation was disputed. This was divided into Upper Aargau and Lower Aargau.
