List of ISO-639-5 codes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list contains all 115 ISO 639-5 codes along with the language families encoded by them .

Since the ISO-639-5 codes are an extension of the ISO-639-2 codes, this is also a list of identical ISO-639-2 codes relating to language families. Conversely, it can be stated here that 50 language families have no ISO-639-2 code.

ISO 639-5 represents the hierarchical structure and dependency of language families and thus allows the structuring of the codes from the sub-standards 1–3. Using the example of the [apa] Apache languages , the Hierarchy column shows that these belong to the [ath] Athapaskan languages ; these in turn belong to the [xnd] Na-Dené languages , which are part of the [nai] North American indigenous languages .
