List of natural monuments in Braunschweig

This list contains the natural monuments that are located in Braunschweig . So far, a total of 33 objects have been designated as natural monuments in Braunschweig. Five of these objects are no longer available today. When it comes to natural monuments, a distinction is made between two-dimensional and linear objects and individual objects.

Bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) At the Löwenwall In 2014 the tree had a height of 26 meters, a trunk circumference of 408 cm and a crown diameter of 15 meters. Protected since 1959.

The bald cypress was on the north bank of the pond in Kiryat Tivon Park. Due to rotten spots in the root area, the natural monument was cleared for felling and felled on December 17, 2014. In 2014 the tree had a height of 27 meters, a trunk circumference of 390 cm and a crown diameter of 16 meters.

ND-BS18 Sycamore maple Traunstrasse, Weststadt 1977 designated as a natural monument.
ND-BS19 Chestnut (2 chestnuts) Bolkenhainstrasse, Melverode 1977 designated as a natural monument. After one of the chestnuts suffered windbreak damage in the 1990s, it did not recover and was removed from the list in 2005 because it no longer met the criteria of a natural monument.

Small spring moor and meandering, periodic stream Querumer Forst, north of Querum The small spring moor, together with a meandering, periodic stream, is designated as a natural monument. The protection purpose is the preservation and undisturbed further development of the ecologically valuable moor to the moor birch-alder- break forest as well as the preservation of a rare angular harrow -alder border.
