List of Vice Chancellors of the Holy Roman Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vice Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church was the official title of the head of the Apostolic Chancellery ( Papal Chancellery ). Since Pope Clement VII , the office was connected with the title of Cardinal Priest of San Lorenzo in Damaso . The designation as cancellarius has been documented since 1005, before the head of the Apostolic Chancellery held the title bibliothecarius . The previous office was that of primicerius notariorum , which has been documented since the 4th century.

Librarians

The librarians of the Holy Roman Church are to be distinguished from the librarians of the Vatican Apostolic Library , which in its current form was only founded in 1447.
