The French embassy is France's diplomatic mission in Syria . It is located on Rue Ata-al-Ayyoubi in Damascus .

With the Sykes-Picot Agreement of May 16, 1916, the governments of Great Britain and France divided the Middle East . As a result, France received the League of Nations mandate for Syria and Lebanon .
