List of Portuguese ambassadors in Yemen
The list of Portuguese ambassadors in Yemen lists the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal in Yemen . The countries have had direct diplomatic relations since 1975, dating back to their first relations after the arrival of the Portuguese explorers in the early 16th century.
In 1981 accredited , the first Portuguese Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Yemen (North Yemen), Portugal's representative with headquarters in the Saudi Arabian diplomats city Jeddah , a little later in the capital Riyadh moved. Portugal then did not open its own embassy in either of the two Yemeni states, Portugal's ambassador to Saudi Arabia continued to receive a second accreditation in the Yemeni capital Sanaa , even after the unification of North and South Yemen in 1990 (as of 2019).
The country still belongs to the administrative district of the Portuguese embassy in Saudi Arabia, but since the protests in Yemen in 2011/2012 and especially the war that has been going on since the military intervention in Yemen since 2015, no Portuguese ambassador has been able to accredit to Yemen.
