List of Portuguese ambassadors in Sri Lanka
The list of Portuguese ambassadors in Sri Lanka lists the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal in Sri Lanka . The two states have had diplomatic relations since 1953, which go back to the arrival of the Portuguese in 1505 and the time of today's Sri Lanka as the Portuguese colony of Ceylon .
A Portuguese representative in Sri Lanka was accredited for the first time in 1953. Portugal maintained its own representation (legation, comparable to an embassy ) in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo between 1955 and 1975. Since then the country has belonged to the administrative district of the Portuguese ambassador in India , the second accreditation in Sri Lanka (as of 2019).
There is a Portuguese honorary consulate in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo .
