List of profaned churches in the diocese of Aachen

This list of profaned churches in the Diocese of Aachen lists the previously profaned and closed churches in the Diocese of Aachen . When a Catholic church building is closed, a profanation service is celebrated, which serves as a place of worship to say goodbye to the building. With the profanation the church is blessed. The list also shows the different options for conversion after a church has been closed .

St. Matthew Aldenhoven pattern   1989 (at the latest) Aldenhoven The Patterner Church, like the entire village, had to give way to the future opencast mine . On July 12, 1990, the neo-Gothic church was demolished. As a replacement, the St. Matthew Chapel was inaugurated on June 27, 1992 in Neu-Pattern.

Immerather Dom.jpg St. Lambertus Erkelenz- Immerath Oct 13, 2013 Erkelenz The church was demolished on January 8th and 9th 2018 and, like the entire village of Immerath, had to give way to the Garzweiler opencast mine . In the resettlement place Immerath (new) a much smaller chapel was built as a replacement.

St. New Years Eve Eschweiler wages Dec 17, 1972 Eschweiler Like the entire village of Lohn, the church had to give way to the opencast mine in the future . On December 11, 1973 the building was blown up. A new church was built to replace the resettlement site in Neu-Lohn .

Subsequent use as refugee accommodation by the city of Hückelhoven.
St. Clement In the   1999 (approx.) In the Like the entire village of Inden, the church had to give way to the Inden opencast mine . After 2001 the church was demolished. A new one was built in the Inden / Altdorf resettlement site to replace the two churches in Inden and Altdorf.

AkGarzweiler.JPG St. Pancras Juchen- Garzweiler   1988 (circa) Juchen Like the entire village of Garzweiler, the church had to give way to the Garzweiler opencast mine . The demolition was completed in 1989. As a replacement, a new, smaller church was built at the Garzweiler resettlement site.
Otzenrath kath church 1.jpg St. Simon and Jude Thaddaeus Juchen- Otzenrath June 18, 2006 Juchen Like the entire village of Otzenrath, the church had to give way to the Garzweiler opencast mine . The demolition took place from March 8th to March 12th, 2007. As a replacement, a new, smaller church was built at the Neu-Otzenrath resettlement site.

However, since Morschenich is no longer to be dredged according to current plans, the future of the church building is uncertain.

Church LichSteinstrass.jpg St. Andreas and Matthias Niederzier- Lich-Steinstrasse   1985 (at the latest) Like the entire village of Lich-Steinstrasse, the church had to give way to the Hambach opencast mine . The demolition was completed in 1988. As a replacement, a new church was built at the Jülich-Lich-Steinstrasse resettlement site.
