List of historical mills of the Loessnitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of historical mills of the Lößnitz gives an overview of the mills that were formerly located in the Lößnitz localities , i.e. the districts of today's Saxon town of Radebeul , or were responsible for these as official mills. Some of their buildings are still there today, are re-used and some are under monument protection .

The milling is the oldest known crafts in the field of Lößnitz places. Probably since the 12th century on Loessnitz Bach colonizing water mills suffered since the installation of the Dippelsdorfer pond as fish farming pond in the early 16th century on the upper reaches of the stream under regular water shortages. The free miller work was regulated in 1569 by the mill compulsory introduced by Elector August , which prescribed certain official mills for farmers in the surrounding communities .

Ship mills have been documented since the 15th century : two such barge mills are mentioned before Kötzschenbroda in 1420, one of which, however, is probably the mill belonging to Naundorf , which was located near Kötitz (see Radebeul street name Nach der Schiffsmühle ). The first document about a watermill on the Lößnitzbach dates back to 1337, almost a century earlier. The windmills were probably built later.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, many mills were given up as unprofitable, switched to steam operation and / or rededicated to tourist restaurants. As in the case of the dairy farm, the mill pond was used as a rowboat pond.
