A Selimiye mosque ( Turkish Selimiye Camii ) bears its name in memory of the " Sultan Mosque in Edirne ".
meaning
The Sultan Mosque of Selim II was built by the Ottoman court architect Mimar Sinan in the former Ottoman capital Edirne in 1568–1575 and is considered his masterpiece. Also Selim III. 1803 built a mosque of the same name, the Selimiye Camii in Üsküdar .
The Turkish and Arabic name Selim means “perfect”, “flawless”.
