Lorenz Fehenberger

Lorenz Fehenberger (born August 24, 1912 in Oberweidach , Upper Bavaria , † July 29, 1984 in Munich ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

He began to sing in the church choir as a boy. After he had his voice trained professionally, he made his debut at the Graz Opera House in 1939 . From 1941 to 1945 he sang at the Dresden State Opera . In 1946 he moved to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He was also a regular guest at the Salzburg Festival from 1949 to 1962 (in the world premiere of Carl Orff's opera Antigonae as Hämon in 1949) and at the Vienna State Opera in 1951/52 . Internationally he could be heard in Italy, Belgium, Holland and South America. At Covent Garden Opera in London he sang Apollo in the British premiere of Richard Strauss' opera Daphne in 1953 . In 1976 he sang the world premiere of the opera Die Temptation by Josef Tal at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich . In 1977 he took leave of the stage in Munich as the host of the Rosenkavalier . For the Munich Opera Festival in 1979 he returned as a guest at the Bavarian State Opera. The composer Wilfried Hiller wrote the monodrama Job (Job) for Fehenberger on a text by Martin Buber . The successful premiere took place on July 15, 1979 in the Theater im Marstall . The director was Michael Leinert from the Bavarian State Opera, the equipment was designed by Ulrich Franz; musical direction: the composer.

Lorenz Fehenberger died at the age of 71 and found his final resting place in the municipal cemetery of Graefelfing in the district of Munich .

Fehenberger successfully sang roles such as Walther in the Meistersinger von Nürnberg , Froh in Rheingold and the title role in Lohengrin by Richard Wagner , singer and landlord in Rosenkavalier , Narraboth in Salome and the Italian singer in Capriccio by Richard Strauss , the Duke in Rigoletto , Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera , Alvaro in La forza del destino and Radames in Aida by Giuseppe Verdi , Cavaradossi in Tosca and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini and Don José in Carmen by Georges Bizet .
