action

Due to global warming , sea levels rose so much in 2048 that most of the world is under water. John Kubiak runs a salvage company with his sons, the diver Jack and the coordinator Thomas. In Los Angeles Bay , Jack pulls an old book out of the water. The trio then travels to Rome and John goes alone to the new Vatican , where he presents the book to Cardinal Battaglia. It provides clues to a mysterious scepter . According to this, the relic is in the monastery Casa di Santo Stefano, which is half under water due to the flood. However, the cardinal suggests that they have a dangerous competitor in their search.

Together with Jack, John fetches a box from the sunken monastery, but when he gets back to the cardinal, he discovers that the box only contains a sword. A little later he learns from Battaglia that the sword belonged to a Templar named Mercadier , who is buried in Dresden . Jack's ex-girlfriend Giovanna Becker now works as a scientist and is hired by the unscrupulous businessman Nicholas Filiminov. Filiminov promises to fund her research if she finds the scepter for him. Giovanna accepts the offer.

Both groups go to Dresden with their ships. John and Jack find Mercadier's grave and a scroll in a room hidden below. Giovanna surprises her and steals the document. John tries to stop the enemy with a shock grenade , but is buried himself under a stone slab. Jack recaptures the scroll and escapes the pursuers. He's going back to the Vatican with Thomas.

Battaglia tells them the story of the scepter there. It is about the Sobek scepter , with which the Egyptians controlled the water level of the Nile . Moses later received it from Ramses II and used it when he left Egypt to divide the Red Sea . Battaglia now wants to stop the flood. Mercadier's document on the Crusade shows that the scepter is with Richard the Lionheart . However, the king's remains are scattered in three places. Jack thinks the whole thing is nonsense. But then Battaglia reveals to him that he and John belonged to an order that was looking for the scepter. Jack and Thomas' birth parents also died in the search. After Thomas and later Giovanna have talked to Jack, he is ready to continue the mission.

The brothers hire Cara, whom they had previously met as a waitress in a bar, as the new machinist for their ship. In the Vatican, Battaglia reveals Father Giacopetti as a traitor, but he can save himself for the time being by jumping into the water. After Cara got a spare part for the ship, the group drives to Fontevrault Abbey , where they suspect the scepter. But their opponents had the same idea and were faster. They bring Richard the Lionheart's sarcophagus onto the ship and Filiminov finds the scepter in it. He wants to control the tide in order to sell the remaining dry land dearly. Giovanna tries to stop him, but is overwhelmed by his assistant and sunk in the sarcophagus.

Meanwhile, Thomas has repaired the sonar and discovers Giovanna as a heat source next to the diving Jack who is saving his ex-girlfriend. This is now working with the brothers. They embark on Filiminov's ship and acquire possession of the scepter. Meanwhile, Cara rams Filiminov's ship, which goes down with its owner. When Giovanna examines the scepter with Jack and Thomas, a picture of Pangea appears and she recognizes points of convergence of cosmic energy. This should make it possible to influence the plate tectonics so that the tide can be lowered. Giovanna locates one of the convergence points in a cave near Saint-Étienne .

Jack, Thomas, Giovanna and Cara find the cave and discover a room with a deep hole in the middle. From drawings on the walls, Giovanna realizes that an explosion has to be created to move the tectonic plates. It was precisely on such a theory that she recently worked as a scientist. The group stands on a natural gas storage tank that can be used for blasting. To do this, Giovanna puts the scepter into a device that triggers a mechanism. The adventurers are about to leave the cave when Jack sees Giacopetti. The priest had overheard the conversation on the ship and followed the group secretly because he wanted to keep the tide safe. In a tough fight, Jack Giacopetti plunges into the abyss and saves the scepter. There is a gigantic explosion and the water flows away through the newly formed gorge.

The brothers and the two women can save themselves. As they celebrate their success over a meal together, they learn from Battaglia that the sea level has not fallen everywhere and that they therefore have to visit many other convergence points.
