Ludwig August Wilhelm von Stutterheim (born June 4, 1751 in Köslin , Pomerania , † October 13, 1826 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a general of the infantry .

Life

Ludwig August was the son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Joachim Friedrich von Stutterheim (1715–1783).

Stutterheim became effective on 4 February 1763 as a corporal corporal in the infantry regiment "Stutterheim" no. 30 of the Prussian army one whose chief was his father. There he was promoted to second lieutenant on January 3, 1770 . At the same time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant , he was transferred to the "von Luck" Infantry Regiment No. 53 on June 29, 1773 . On June 10, 1776 he was staff captain and on July 1, 1778 company commander . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in Bohemia and Silesia .

On April 2, 1789 he was transferred to the "von Koschembahr" Infantry Regiment No. 55 and on July 4, 1790 promoted to major . As such, he fought in 1794 in the war against the insurgents in Poland in the battle on the Rawka on June 6, the relief of Thorn and at the end of August at the siege of Warsaw . For this he received on August 29, 1794 the order Pour le Mérite . In November 1795 he was transferred to the East Prussian Fusilier Brigade and in September 1797 appointed brigadier of the same. In this position he was Yorck's superior , for whom he was always a model of the strictest fulfillment of duty.

At the War of 1806/07 against France, he also took part and was "his insightful and brave behavior" for the Battle of Eylau out of order on March 8, 1807 Major General conveyed. After the war, Stutterheim was one of the members of the commission of inquiry, which was supposed to assess the behavior of the officers who were captured during the campaigns. King Friedrich Wilhelm III. recognized his effectiveness by a very gracious cabinet letter, and awarded him the 1st class of the Order of the Red Eagle on July 9, 1809 .

On December 11, 1809 he was appointed governor of Koenigsberg , on November 26, 1811, he temporarily retired as lieutenant general , but returned to active service on July 18, 1813 as military governor of the country between the Vistula and the Oder . On June 8, 1814, he became governor of Koenigsberg for the second time. With the award of the Order of the Black Eagle , Stutterheim retired on June 13, 1825. Before that, on March 30, 1824, he had received the character of General of the Infantry. He died on October 13, 1826 in Königsberg.

Stutterheim was married to Luise Charlotte Albertine Juliane (1765–1869), daughter of the Prussian major general Carl Ludwig von Ingersleben , since 1784 .

He adopted his adjutant and nephew, Baron Leopold von Schrötter (* 1791), Royal Prussian Premier Lieutenant in the 1st Leib Hussar Regiment at the time.
