Career

society

Marc McNulty began his career at the age of six at the Hutchison Vale Boys Club in Edinburgh. He then played from the age of eleven for three years in the youth academy of Celtic Glasgow . He returned to Edinburgh in 2006 and played for Hibernian until 2009 . From 2009 to 2010 his last year was in the junior division at Livingston FC .

On October 31, 2009, 17-year-old McNulty made his debut in Livingston's first team. In the fourth division game against FC Montrose he came after a substitution in the 89th minute for Andy Halliday in the game and scored with his first touch of the ball the goal to 3-0 final score. In the 2009/10 season he was used for the club nine times. Livingston rose as at the end of the season as a league leader in the third division. In the following third division season he came on five missions and one goal in the game against Airdrieonians FC . Livingston rose in the season with 23 points ahead of Ayr United for the second time in a row. In the second division season 2011/12 he made his breakthrough in the Livis team. With 11 goals in 30 games, McNulty was the team's top scorer along with Rory Boulding . In the following two seasons in the 2nd division McNulty remained a regular and continued to score successfully.

In May 2014, the striker moved to English third division club Sheffield United for a transfer fee . In November 2014, he was involved in an altercation at an Edinburgh nightclub in which he sustained a facial injury. United coach Nigel Clough let McNulty continue to train and play afterwards. In his first season in Sheffield, he scored 9 goals in 31 league games. The promotion to the second division failed in the play-offs against Swindon Town . In the same year he reached the semi-finals in the English League Cup with his new team, which was lost to Tottenham Hotspur . At the beginning of the new season he was again active for Sheffield until September 2015. In October he was left out of action.

In November 2015, McNulty was loaned out to Portsmouth FC until the end of the season . For the fourth division he scored 10 goals in 27 games. In the promotion play-offs he lost with Pompey against Plymouth Argyle .

From September 2016 to January 2017, McNulty was awarded to Bradford City . There it was only used irregularly. In January 2017, Sheffield ended the loan, which was actually intended for the entire season, prematurely. But even in Sheffield he played no role after his return and came only three times in the league on minutes.

McNulty moved to Coventry City in May 2017 , and signed a two-year contract with the fourth division club. In Coventry, he scored 23 times in 43 league games. In the play-offs succeeded after successes over Notts County and Exeter City of promotion to the third division.

After a year he left Coventry with his current contract after Reading FC signed the striker for a transfer fee in the millions. In the first part of the season he played 13 games and scored once.

In January 2019, McNulty was awarded to his former youth club, Hibernian Edinburgh . A loan to AFC Sunderland followed for the 2019/20 season . From January 2020 it was awarded again to Edinburgh.

National team

With a strong performance during his loan to Hibernian Edinburgh in the first half of 2019, McNulty was first called up to the Scottish national team in March . The striker had not previously played any youth games for Scotland. McNulty made his debut for Scotland on March 21, 2019. He replaced James Forrest in the 81st minute in the first qualifying game for the 2020 European Championship against Kazakhstan, which was lost 3-0.
