Marcel Mohab
Marcel Mohab (born August 17, 1979 in Graz ) is an Austrian actor , cabaret artist and comedian .
Life
Marcel Mohab comes from Graz. His mother Helga Kern-Theissl runs a well-known dance school there; his father works in the Graz tax administration. Mohab originally wanted to become a psychiatrist , but dropped out of medical school after six months of pre-clinical training ; later he took up a degree in journalism . He then decided to act, which he had always wanted to do, took entrance exams and was accepted at the Anton Bruckner University for the Performing Arts in Linz , where he studied acting from 2002 to 2006. He also attended the École Philippe Gaulier in Paris from 2006 to 2008, where he also received training as a clown from the well-known clown and theater teacher Philippe Gaulier . His training in Paris, during which he also met Sacha Baron Cohen , was financed by his grandmother's inheritance.
During his studies he played at the Landestheater Linz . This was followed by theater engagements on various stages, at off-theater, in independent theater productions and at theater festivals, for example at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2009 . He played at Theater Phönix in Linz (2009), at Theater Nestroyhof (2011; 2013), at Theater Garage X (2011) and at theaternyx in Wels (2012).
In January / February 2013 he played at the Nestroyhof Hamakom Theater in Vienna in the world premiere of the tragic comedy Habe die Habe by Syrian author Ibrahim Amir . Mohab played one of the three main roles, a husband and a macho. The production (directed by Hans Escher) received the Nestroy Prize in 2013 for the best off-theater play. In April / May 2014 he appeared in the title role of the play Robin Hood by Holger Schober at the youth theater DSCHUNGEL WIEN - theater for young audiences . In 2015 he had a guest engagement at the Lower Austria State Theater in St. Pölten .
Marcel Mohab also performs as a cabaret artist and comedian. He has made guest appearances on various cabaret stages in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic (Kulturfabrik Hildesheim, Scheinbar Variete Berlin, Cabaret Voltaire , Malostranska Beseda Prague, Theater am Alsergrund , BKA Theater Berlin, Mood Indigo Festival India / Mumbai, Cabaret Niedermair Vienna and others ). For his solo program "Animal Funk", a clown comedy in English, he was awarded the Golden Cabaret Prize in 2012. In 2016 he won the Hercules Cabaret Prize in Klagenfurt .
In 2015-2016 he performed with the show program Out of Nowhere , a mixture of cabaret, pantomime , clowning and British stand-up comedy , together with Carlo Jacucci.
Mohab made his cinema debut in 2014 with a leading role in the Austrian comedy film High Performance - Mandarinen do not lie by director Johanna Moder . The film won the audience award at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival and was shown at the Montreal World Film Festival, among others. Mohab played the previously unsuccessful off-theater actor Daniel , at the side of Manuel Rubey , one of two brothers. Mohab was also involved in developing the dialogues. In the Wiener Tatort: Grenzfall (first broadcast: March 2015) he had a supporting role as Schmiedt's assistant. In May 2016 Mohab starred in the ZDF television film Hexensommer from the Katie Fforde film series. He played Oliver Barrymore, a former convict starting a new life in a small New England town . In January 2017 he was in the television comedy The Diva, Thailand and Us! to be seen in a leading role; he played Frank Neuendorff, the son-in-law of 72-year-old Anneliese Behrens ( Hannelore Elsner ), who has to be looked after by her family after a cancer diagnosis . Mohab appeared in an episode role in the Austrian crime series SOKO Kitzbühel in May 2017; he played the suspected tango dancer Robert Gessler, a serious competitor of the murder victim. In the 18th season of the ZDF series SOKO Leipzig (2018) he had one of the episode roles in a 90-minute series special as the partner of the investigating prosecutor ( Michael Rotschopf ).
Mohab lives in Vienna and Berlin.
