Martin Redeker (born October 21, 1900 in Bielefeld , † May 14, 1970 in Kiel ) was a German theologian and politician ( CDU ). From 1954 to 1967 he was a member of the state parliament in Schleswig-Holstein .

Life

From 1920 Redeker studied Protestant theology in Halle and Göttingen . In Halle and Göttingen he was active in wing golf. He completed his studies with an ordination as a pastor . From 1930 to 1932 he was a lecturer in Protestant religious studies at the Pedagogical Academy in Cottbus. In 1933 he joined the NSDAP . He received his doctorate in theology in 1933 in systematic theology . In 1934 he took over the chair for systematic theology in Münster . His special topic was the connection between Germanism and the Christian religion . For example, in 1935 he wrote an article in the magazine Die Deutsche Schule entitled “Germanic Religion and Religious Education in School”.

In 1936 he was appointed to the chair of systematic theology at Kiel University as the successor to Hermann Mulert, who had been pushed out of office . This happened in connection with the National Socialist profile of Kiel as a "borderland university". His work at the Institute for Research and Elimination of the Jewish Influence on German Church Life since 1939 was a logical step in his political commitment to Nazi ideology. Under the aegis of Reich Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, he gave sermons from Kiel University Church on Reichsrundfunk . In one of these addresses he said in January 1939: " We see all too clearly what satanic power of decomposition is concentrated in world Jewry and in materialism ."

In 1945 Redeker was removed from office, complained against it and was soon reinstated in office and dignity. From 1949 he campaigned intensively and as publicly as possible for the establishment of the "Theological Study House Kieler Kloster " and other student residences. Not long afterwards he was appointed lecturer at the College for Teacher Training, which later became the College of Education, and received his teaching post for Systematic Theology at Kiel University again. As a professor at the University of Education, he was automatically a member of the "Scientific Examination Office for Teaching at Higher Schools in Schleswig-Holstein".

Call for elections in 1962

Between 1954 and 1967 he was a member of the CDU in the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein for three electoral terms . In 1967 he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to the construction of student dormitories . In 1967/68 there were multiple clashes between the student body and Redeker because of his National Socialist past.

A lasting achievement of Redeker lies in his contributions to Schleiermacher research and the establishment of the Schleiermacher Research Center in Kiel.
