Mathieu Dandenault (born February 3, 1976 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who, in the course of his active career between 1993 and 2010, among other things, 951 games for the Detroit Red Wings and Canadiens de Montréal in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender and right winger . Dandenault won the Stanley Cup three times in the service of the Detroit Red Wings between 1997 and 2002 and was world champion in the jersey of the Canadian national team in 2003 .
Career
The 1.85 m tall defender began his career with the Faucons de Sherbrooke in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec before he was selected in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft as the 49th player in the second round of the Detroit Red Wings .
In his first NHL season in 1995/96 , the right -handed shooter played in the Red Wings' regular squad, for which he was on the ice for a total of nine years and with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 1997 , 1998 and 2002 . During the lockout in the 2004/05 season , the Canadian played for HC Asiago in the Italian Serie A1 before returning to his homeland for the Canadiens de Montréal the following year.
There he played four years before he was no longer committed after the 2008/09 season . After he was temporarily out of a club, he signed a contract with Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League . After only 19 games, he ended his engagement there because Dandenault had to struggle with injury problems. In September 2010 he announced the end of his career as a hockey player.
International
Dandenault took part with the Canadian national team at the 2003 World Cup and won the gold medal with the team.
