Matinée (alternative title: Matinee - The Horror Premiere ) is an American comedy film from 1993 . Directed by Joe Dante , the screenplay was written by Charles S. Haas .

action

The action takes place in Florida in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis . The father of the brothers Dennis and Gene Loomis serving on a submarine of the United States Navy . Gene befriends Stan. He falls in love with Sandra, who protests against the possible military attack and is punished for it by the school administration.

Gene attends the premiere of the horror film Mant , which features a creature that is half-human and half-ant. For promotional purposes, the producer organizes a mock demonstration against his own film.

Janet Maslin wrote in The New York Times on January 29, 1993 that the focus was on the fictional film Mant , which was a parody of the horror films of the early 1960s. Matinée devotes a lot of attention to American pop culture in 1962. The film is "funny" and "witty" , but it is "overloaded" with supporting characters . Goodman offers the most reliable and entertaining screen presence in comedy.
