Michael Elsener
Michael Elsener (born September 18, 1985 in Zug ) is a Swiss satirist , cabaret artist , parodist and stand-up comedian .
Life
education
Elsener graduated from the University of Zurich with a master's degree in political science and journalism in 2010 . His focus was on Swiss politics, political philosophy and international relations.
He continued his education in “The essence of the clown” with Jacopo Fò, Carlo Colombaioni and Alessio Targioni in Florence as well as in improvisational theater, voice training and acting at the Zurich University of the Arts . This was followed by work on numbers and programs with the directors Franz Odermatt, Werner Baumgartner, Hilde Schneider , Ueli Bichsel, Max Werner Widmer and Paul Steinmann .
In 2012 Elsener received a cultural scholarship from the Canton of Zug and was able to do internships in New York for six months. During this time he developed an English stand up act, with which he gradually worked his way up the New York comedy scene.
Stage career
Since 2006 he has been touring Switzerland with full-length solo programs. Elsener celebrated its premiere in 2009 with its “copy & paste” program. In 2011 "voice break" followed. In 2015 he started his three-year tour of Switzerland with his third solo program “Mediengeil”. From 2012 he toured Germany with “Schlaraffenland”. With excerpts from it, he was a guest on “ Nightwash ”, “Schlachthof” and “Radiospitzen”. In 2017 he premiered his second German solo program “Mediengeil”.
In 2019 he hosted the satire show “Late Update - with Michael Elsener” on Swiss television, where he satirically commented on events in Switzerland and around the world.
Michael Elsener became known for his fictional stage characters, classic cabaret numbers and his imitations, for example from former Federal Councilors Moritz Leuenberger , Johann Schneider-Ammann , the TV presenters Kurt Aeschbacher , Ueli Schmezer , Andreas Moser and Stephan Klapproth , the German comedian Michael Mittermeier , Christa Rigozzi , Hausi Leutenegger and the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer .
He made regular appearances in feature films or as a live act on " Giacobbo / Müller ", Swiss television , where he was also a member of the team of authors. As the youngest cabaret artist, he appeared in the Saturday evening show “ Benissimo ” on Swiss TV.
Elsener also worked as a freelance journalist for the Neue Zuger Zeitung and the Swiss radio DRS and appeared in the satirical program “Spasspartout” on SRF 1 .

Solo programs; Tour through Switzerland
2009–2011: "copy & paste"
This program dealt with the problem that nothing is really new nowadays. Most of it is just a new combination of what has been there. Elsener also describes the relationship between original and copy.
2011–2014: "Broken voice"
Elsener caricatures the difficult life as a teenager and for the first time launches the character of his grandfather Jürg Elsener. The grandfather's character tells of a revolution in the old people's home with a lot of black humor.
2015–2018: "Mediengeil"
It is e.g. social smartphone addiction and how the media corporations control more and more aspects of our lives.

2012–2016: "Land of plenty"
Elsener shows how Germans like to come to Switzerland to work and the Swiss like to go shopping in Germany.
2016–2018: "Mediengeil"
In 2016 Elsener further developed its Swiss “Mediengeil” program for Germany.
Comedy essays
Since 2014 Elsener has published entertaining videos on social media channels on socially and politically current and relevant topics, for example mineral water consumption in the drinking water country of Switzerland; Small loans; Gay marriage; No billag initiative; Self-determination initiative.
Late update
In 2018 Michael Elsener presented a pilot episode of a new late night show "Late Update - with Michael Elsener" for Swiss television. The broadcast has the character of a news satire format. The focus of “Late Update” is a ten-minute comedy essay in which Elsener goes into more depth on a topic and a talk with a guest. In the pilot episode, this was CVP President Gerhard Pfister .
In 2019 Michael Elsener hosted two seasons of “Late Update” on SRF 1. In the satire show, he commented on events in Switzerland and around the world in a satirical manner and devoted himself to a key topic, such as the climate, which he is in examined the broadcasts more closely. Ensemble members were satirist Renato Kaiser , stage poet Patti Basler , author and theater maker Matto Kämpf, cabaret artist Uta Köbernick , cabaret artist Nils Althaus , slam poet Lisa Christ and stand-up comedian Sven Ivanić. Talk guests from politics or entertainment, such as u. a. the President of Jungfreisinnigen Schweiz Andri Silberschmidt , the rapper Steff la Cheffe , National Councilor Tiana Angelina Moser , State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl and former Federal Councilor Moritz Leuenberger .
Good night show
The Late Night Show has existed since 2013 and can be seen in the theater and on social media channels. He invites well-known personalities to talk on the edge of his bed, u. a. Former SRG general director Roger de Weck , SVP parliamentary group leader Thomas Aeschi and comedians such as Jonny Fischer from Divertimento and Marco Rima .
Other show formats
Other stage formats by Elsener are, for example, the “Debating Club”, in which he lets politicians compete against each other in new forms of debate. Or the "Boring Photo Evening", where celebrities lie to their holiday stories.
radio
For Radio SRF3, Elsener developed the character of media spokesman Renato Caflisch for the “current expert talk”. This justified in a hair-raising way the behavior of large Swiss companies that were criticized.
Elsener also developed the “Saving with Buser” section for the same radio station, in which the saver Ronny Buser gives absurd tips for a cheap life in Switzerland.
