Cabaret cactus
The Kabarett Kaktus is Munich's oldest cabaret award , which was awarded from 1992 to 2018 as part of a festival of the same name by the Kultur & Spielraum e. V. is awarded. The festival took place annually in the Pasinger Fabrik cultural center from the late 1980s to 2018 . The award, now well-known nationwide, was aimed at groups and soloists up to around 35 years of age who could apply with their first or second program in the fields of cabaret and comedy , as well as newcomers to cabaret.
history
At the end of the 1980s there were fewer and fewer opportunities for young cabaret performers in Munich, as the so-called cabaret pubs declined under the pressure of large breweries . In order to encourage young talent, the cabaret artists Christian Springer , Helmut Schleich and Andreas Rüttenauer , who were successful as a cabaret trio with the Cabaret Fernrohr founded by Springer and Schleich in 1983 , developed the idea for, together with Albert Kapfhammer (from the Kultur & Spielraum eV association) a regular festival for “young cabaret”. The first cabaret Kaktus Festival took place in 1989 in the former household goods factory of the Ritter company in Munich- Pasing , where the Kultur & Spielraum e. V. had been doing youth and cultural work for several years and offered itself as a co-organizer. Since then, the cabaret festival has been held annually in the middle / end of November in the Alte Ritterwerke or, since 1991, in the Pasinger Fabrik cultural and community center . In addition to German participants, participants from Austria , Belgium and Switzerland are now taking part.
In 1992 the festival was further developed into a competition , and since then Der Kabarett Kaktus has been awarded as a prize . In addition, there was a "cabaret newcomer exchange" between the cabaret scenes in Munich and Vienna , as a result of which young Austrian cabarets can often be seen in Munich. In return, the winners of the Munich Festival performed at well-known Viennese cabaret stages, such as the Niedermaier cabaret , the Jura Soyfer theater on Spittelberg or the Orpheum .
The seven-day competition festival is organized by Verein Kultur & Spielraum e. V. , the organizers are the cabaret artists and initiators of the cabaret competition, Albert Kapfhammer, Helmut Schleich and Christian Springer. The event takes place in cooperation with the youth culture agency and the cultural department of the state capital Munich.
Since 1989, over 350 artists and groups have taken part in the festival and competition. The “oldest Munich cabaret competition” is regularly reported in the media and has served as an artistic springboard for numerous participants. At the 10th anniversary in 1998, the festival evening with the award winners was recorded by Bavarian television and the radio program Bayern 2-radioSpitzen from Bayerischer Rundfunk has since reported regularly on the award winners of the cabaret Kaktus . On the occasion of the 20th anniversary in 2008, a special “anniversary evening” was organized jointly by around a dozen winners from previous years as part of the competition festival. Former award winners also performed at the 25th Kaktus cabaret in 2013 on the anniversary evening.
In 2018 the cabaret Kaktus took place for the last time, it was the 30th competition, on the anniversary evening several former winners appeared again.
Competition regulations
The cabaret cactus will be determined in two categories as part of the festival: Five to six young artists or groups will be invited to the newcomer evening “Tasting”, each showing 15 minutes from their program. One or two artists or groups can qualify for the main competition. On three evenings, it will present a total of nine to twelve selected participants, each with a 30-minute program excerpt. From the main competition, an expert jury will select two winners (1st and 2nd place) from among the festival participants. In addition to representatives of the organizer , the jury includes representatives from the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Bayerischer Rundfunk, Bavarian TV, the Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft and the Drehleier Theater .
One evening of the festival is dedicated to the previous year's winners, and another evening artists from Austria will perform. The current winners of the festival will appear on the final evening. The new prize winners will receive specimens of the eponymous plants as non-cash prizes and will also be rewarded with a guest performance each at the Theater Drehleier in Munich and at the Munich Lach- und Schießgesellschaft .
