Mikołaj Łopuski (born December 24, 1985 in Gdynia ) is a Polish ice hockey player who has been under contract with GKS Katowice in the Ekstraliga since 2017 .

Career

Club

Mikołaj Łopuski started his career in the youth department of Stoczniowiec Gdańsk . From there he moved to the youth academy of the Polish ice hockey association Szkoła Mistrzostwa Sportowego for which he played in the second-class I league from 2002 to 2004 . He then moved to the Czech Republic, where he first played in the U20 of HC Ytong Brno and then at HC Slovan Ústí nad Labem , where he not only played in the U20, but also in the 1st division , the second highest Czech division that he could win with his team. The 2006/07 season he spent in the Slovak Extra League at MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš . After the first games of the following season he returned to his home club Stoczniowiec Gdańsk, for which he played in the Ekstraliga until 2009 . He then moved to KS Cracovia , with which he became Polish national champion in 2011 . Nevertheless, he left the team from the Malopolska university town after this success and played the following two years first at Aksam Unia Oświęcim and then at GKS Tychy , for whom he was the top scorer of the Ekstraliga in the 2012/13 season . In the summer of 2013 he switched to the Ekstraliga promoted KTH Krynica , which he left in October of the same year to return to the GKS Tychy, with whom he was Polish runner-up in 2014 and 2016 and champion in 2015. Since 2016 he has played for Milton Keynes Lightning in the second-rate British English Premier Ice Hockey League , in which he won both the playoffs and the cup competition in 2017. He then moved back to GKS Katowice in the Ekstraliga.

International

For Poland, Łopuski took part in the junior division in Division II of the U18 World Cup in 2002 and Division I of the U18 World Cup in 2003 as well as Division II of the U20 World Cup in 2004 and Division I of the U20 World Cup in 2005 .

He made his debut in the men's national team at the Division I games of the 2006 World Cup . In the following years, Łopuski represented his colors in the Division I tournaments of the 2007 , 2009 World Championships , when he was the tournament's top scorer, 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2014 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 . He also played for Poland in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , 2014 in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang .
