Miranda is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cauca in Colombia .

geography

Miranda is located in the Provincia del Norte in Cauca at an altitude of 1120  m above sea level. NN , 122 km from Popayán and 47 km from Cali . The municipality borders in the north on Florida in the department of Valle del Cauca , in the east on Rioblanco and Planadas in the department of Tolima , in the south on Corinto and Padilla and in the west on Puerto Tejada .

history

Miranda was officially founded in 1899 and named after the Latin American independence fighter Francisco de Miranda . Initially the place was known as El Espejuelo .

economy

The main industry of Miranda is agriculture , with the cultivation of sugar cane predominating. There is also illegal cultivation of coca plants .
