Misleševo ( Macedonian Мислешево ; Albanian Mislleshova / -ë ) is a village in the municipality of Struga and a suburb of the city of the same name in southwestern North Macedonia . The Lake Ohrid and the Ohrid Airport are just 1 km to the south and east of the village.
Village image and location
The village consists of two cores: a newer quarter on the Europastraße and an older one in the northeast. Neighboring villages are Moroišta in the north , Struga in the west , some lakeside suburbs of Struga in the south and the airport in the east.
History and population
In communist Yugoslavia the village was rather insignificant, at that time only Macedonians lived in the village. When the regime in Belgrade collapsed and the Republic of Macedonia was established in 1991, the village and the entire region were affected by rural exodus. Many Albanians from the nearby mountains in the north and west settled in Misleševo, while the Macedonians settled in the nearby town of Struga, which led to demographic shifts . Albanians still settle in the village today, but today because of the low land prices. According to the 2002 census, however, the Macedonians are still in the majority:
- A total of 3,507 inhabitants, including:
- 2,861 Macedonians
- 539 Albanians
- 20 Turks
- 11 Roma
- 47 Wallachians
- 11 Serbs
- 18 other nationalities
Economy and Transport
The village is traditionally active in agriculture, grain, corn, potatoes, tomatoes and tobacco are grown. On the European route E852 , which connects the eastern part of Ohrid with Struga and Tirana , there are many small businesses and small shops, most of which are run by Albanians, as the majority of them are located here in the center.
