history

Detail of the mosaic in the baptistery (2009)

In 1927 a group of archaeologists found an early Christian basilica on the ground of the Christian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas (maz. Crkva Sv. Nikola Црква Св. Никола) . It had three aisles, had a narthex and also contained a baptistery , where until recently parts of a mosaic could be seen on the floor. In 2012 they were brought to the Miladinovi Brothers Museum in Struga. Deer, horses, Kantharosen , flowers, trees and geometric ornaments are depicted . The basilica was built between the 4th and 5th centuries AD.

Culture and sport

The cultural-humanitarian association Oktisi 09 (KHD Oktisi 09) was founded in early 2009 in Rorschach , Switzerland . The association is mostly financed by the local diaspora . Thanks to these donations, many projects could be implemented in the village, such as the setting up of traffic signs, the publication of the village newspaper Oktiski Glas (Macedonian: “Voice of Oktisi”) once a year and the construction of children's playgrounds. In addition, the association sent around 120 hospital beds, chests of drawers, dining tables and surgical instruments to the hospitals in Struga and the surrounding outpatient departments through donations from the cantonal hospitals of St. Gallen , Rorschach and Frauenfeld .

In autumn 2009 a football club abroad ( Switzerland ) was founded by the local diaspora with the help of the cultural-humanitarian association Oktisi 09 . The club plays in the 4th division of the country.

traffic

The village is four kilometers off the Struga- Debar national road and about 18 kilometers from the Ohrid International Airport . It is 25 km to the Albanian border at Qafë Thana and 90 km to the Greek border at Dolno Dupeni . The road distance to the capital Skopje is 190 km.
