Moab is a city (with the status " City ") and the administrative seat of Grand County in the US - state of Utah . In 2010 , Moab had 5046 inhabitants, the number of which had increased to 5130 by 2013.
geography
Moab is located on the Colorado River at an altitude of 1,227 m above sea level on the Colorado Plateau. The city covers an area of 9.4 km².
Nearby are Arches National Park , Canyonlands National Park, and tiny Dead Horse Point State Park . East of the city is the Sand Flats Recreation Area , which includes the Slickrock Trail . Furthermore, about 30 miles south of the city, just off US-191, the Wilson Arch is found .
Many motels and other accommodations are geared towards day visitors to the national parks. The tourism is an important industry of the town.
Neighboring towns of Moab are Spanish Valley (14.7 km southeast) and Castle Valley (35.5 km northeast).
The closest major cities are Utah's capital, Salt Lake City (376 km northwest), Colorado's capital Denver (552 km east-northeast), and Nevada's largest city, Las Vegas (736 km southwest).

The US Highway 191 leads as the main road in northwest-southeast direction as the main road through Moab. The Utah State Route 279 runs along the Colorado River and crosses US 191 on the northwestern outskirts of the city. All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inter-urban connecting roads.

The name Moab probably derives from the biblical landscape Moab from, but is also jokingly referred to as acronym for M ormons, O res, A rtists and B interpreted icycles, bringing the activities of the surrounding area are described the city of the past to the present:
Moab was founded by the Mormons , then were there in mines uranium ores ( English ore is ore ) mined. From 1949 the area around Moab became the filming location for numerous westerns and became "the ultimate western location". According to the 2010 census , Moab had 5046 people in 2109 households. The population density was 36.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.36 people in each of the 2109 households.
