Moira Walley-Beckett is a Canadian born television actress , screenwriter, and producer . She won several Emmys and WGA awards for her work on the AMC cable series Breaking Bad .

Career

Moira Walley-Beckett grew up in Vancouver and began her dance career at the age of three. In her early childhood she took lessons in jazz and ballet, the latter to this day. Walley-Beckett attended the Banff School of Fine Arts , danced professionally for several years, then switched to music theater and played in more than 30 theater productions. She moved to Los Angeles in her 20s to pursue her acting career. From the mid-1980s to the early 2000s, Moira Walley-Beckett worked as a television actress, primarily in the USA. During this time she made guest appearances in over 30 television productions. She had her first television appearance in 1984 in the television film Secrets of a Married Man with the actors William Shatner , Michelle Phillips and Cybill Shepherd . From 1988 to 1990 she had her first long story arc in the Canadian television series Strandpiraten .

In 2007, Moira Walley-Beckett began working as a screenwriter for the short-lived NBC drama series Raines, with Jeff Goldblum in the lead role. In 2008 she wrote a screenplay for the ABC musical series Eli Stone with Alex Taub . In 2009 she began writing the second season for the AMC television series Breaking Bad . By the end of the series in 2013, she was working on episodes in the writer's room and wrote a total of nine episodes of the television series. Among other things, she wrote the episode Endzeit with Thomas Schnauz , which received a 2012 nomination for the WGA Award of the Writers Guild of America for best drama episode. Walley-Beckett is also responsible for the episode Ozymandias , which, according to showrunner Vince Gilligan , is the show 's highlight and received an Emmy for Best Screenplay. Walley-Beckett won two other Emmys, three WGA awards and a PGA award with Breaking Bad . While still at Breaking Bad , she worked on the ABC television series Pan Am from 2011 to 2012 , for which she wrote three episodes. After the television series Breaking Bad ended , she developed her own television series, Flesh and Bone , for Starz , a dark drama about ballet that was released in November 2015. Her Canadian television series Anne with an E , based on the novel Anne on Green Gables , has been released on CBC Television in Canada and on Netflix in the US since 2017 . In 2018 the feature film The Grizzlies , for which Walley-Beckett wrote the script, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival .
