The Monsun-Theater ( spelling : monsun.theater ) is the oldest off-theater in Hamburg and has existed since 1980. It is located in the Ottensen district .

history

Theater hall

The theater opened in 1980 in premises that were used as mustard storage for the Kühne company until the 1970s . In 2005 the foyer and the theater hall, which has almost 100 seats, were redesigned.

The Monsun-Theater belongs to the HAMBURG off group , which brings together theaters that receive little or no state funding.

repertoire

The range of performances serves different formats from the areas of drama , dance , performance, children's and youth theater, literature and music . In-house productions and the promotion of young talent form a focus. Since the 2016/2017 season, it has been important to present circus art in an innovative way. Contemporary art is also exhibited in the foyer .

The artistic focus of the director Françoise Hüsges is on cooperation with other countries in cultural exchange projects, including Burkina Faso , France and Denmark . The artistic director gained fame through so-called tape productions.
