Moritz Ludwig Friedrich Leopold von Frankenberg and Ludwigsdorf (born May 9, 1820 in Braunschweig , † September 19, 1890 in Darmstadt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Moritz was the son of Braunschweig major Friedrich Wilhelm Erdmann von Frankenberg and Ludwigsdorf (1786–1861) and his wife Florentine Adelheid Sophie Elisabeth, née Hoyoll (1800–1860).

Military career

Frankenberg attended secondary school in his hometown and joined the 13th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on October 11, 1836 . There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant in January 1838 and was in command of the 7th Combined Reserve Battalion for one year from the end of April 1841. On October 1, 1846, he became adjutant of the 1st Battalion and from October 1847 to March 1848 he was assigned to the Central Gymnastics Institute in Berlin . During the German Revolution he took part in the street fighting in Berlin on March 18, 1849 and was also used in the street fighting in Iserlohn during the May uprisings on May 17, 1849 . From March 1851 to September 1852 Frankenberg was in command of the Hereditary Prince Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein and accompanied him to the University of Heidelberg and on trips. In the meantime he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and transferred to the 7th Jäger Battalion . After completing his command, Frankenberg was transferred to the 1st Jäger Battalion in mid-September 1852 when he was promoted to captain . On November 13, 1852, he was reassigned and in mid-June 1854 he was appointed company commander . On May 26, 1859 he was transferred to the 17th Infantry Regiment and on February 10, 1863 he was commanded as a major in the 4th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 30 . On April 7, 1863 he was aggregated to this regiment and assigned to June 27, 1863. He rose to command of the 1st Battalion on April 9, 1863 and took over the Fusilier Battalion in October 1865. Frankenberg led his battalion during the German War in 1866 in the battles near Hammelburg , Helmstedt and Roßbrunn .

After the peace treaty he became commander of the Kurhessischer Jäger Battalion No. 11 and in this capacity was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent from October 30, 1866 . Under position à la suite of his battalion he was commissioned from June 1, 1868 with the command of the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Grand Ducal Hessian Division . On July 3, 1868 he was appointed colonel and on November 7, 1869 he was appointed commander of the 1st Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 13 in Munster . In the war against France in 1870 he was seriously wounded in the battle of Gravelotte and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He then took part in the siege of Metz , where he fell seriously ill with dysentery . After the preliminary peace of Versailles , Frankenberg was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class on March 24, 1871.

With the promotion to major general on March 22, 1873, Frankenberg received command of the 15th Infantry Brigade in Erfurt . Due to illness, he was placed on 5 January 1875, the statutory pension for disposition . After his farewell, Kaiser Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on the occasion of the festival in January 1876 . He died on September 19, 1890 in Darmstadt.

On August 19, 1852, Frankenberg married Thekla Anna Rosa Luise von Chelius (1826–1897), a daughter of Professor Dr. Maximilian Joseph von Chelius (1794–1876) and Anna Maria Waldburga von Sensburg (1797–1867). The couple had several children:
