history
Mount Holly was founded on October 31, 1792, from an area of land between Wallingford and Ludlow that was not previously allocated. Part of the area was named Jackson Gore after Abraham Jackson, one of the first settlers, but that part belonged to Wallingford. The settlement started in 1781 with a grant to Abraham Jackson and 29 other settlers. The first settlers came from Connecticut , Rhode Island and Massachusetts . The first city assembly took place in Rutland.
Ten years later, residents of the Jackson Gore area, along with a few neighbors from Wallingford and Ludlow, petitioned the legislature to establish their own town. From these areas the town of Mount Holly was founded in 1792. The origin of the name has not been passed down. It could go back to the early Quaker settlement.
There are several villages in the area of the town. Belmont is centrally located, and there are Bowlsville, Goodellville, Healdville, Hortonville and Tarbellville. A location between Healdville and the Village Mount Holy is Summit, also called Summit Station. This is where the last nail of the railway line connecting Burlington and Boston was driven.
Religions
Quakers , Methodists , Baptists and the Congregational Church were founded early on in Mount Holly .
