Murphy Guyer (born December 25, 1952 in Dover , Delaware ) is an American actor .

life and career

Murphy Guyer is from Delaware, but grew up in Maryland. At 19 he went to New York to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts , for which he received a scholarship. It was there that he discovered his talent for writing sketches and jokes and soon gained his first stage experience as a stand-up comedian. One of his first engagements in the theater, in the early 80s, was the performance of the play Eden Court , which was performed at the Humana Festival of New American Plays in Louisville . It was then shown on Broadway and also made into a film. Throughout his career he has written plays that have been performed nationwide. These include The Metaphor , Loyalties and the satirical piece The American Century . Some made it to Canada, Great Britain, Ireland and Russia.

He made his first appearance in front of the camera in 1991 with an appearance on the series Law & Order . By 2005 he appeared in a total of five episodes of the series. In 1994 he was seen in the role of Cole in the television movie Vanishing Son II . A year later he played a sheriff in the film drama Parallel Sons . In the political thriller City Hall he was in the role of Capt. To see Florian . In 1997 he appeared in the films Project: Peacemaker and On behalf of the devil in small roles. His television appearances during this period include New York Undercover , Oz - Hell Behind Bars , The Sopranos , Ed - The Bowling Lawyer, and Third Watch - Bet At The Limit . He played Officer Kaplan in the comedy Arthur in 2011. This was followed by appearances in 24 , Rubicon , Mildred Pierce , White Collar , Person of Interest , Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York , Elementary , House of Cards , Billions , The Blacklist , The Good Fight , Madam Secretary and The Code .

In 2017 Guyer appeared in the youth film Wonderstruck . In 2019 he played Barry O'Donnell in the film Joker . From 2018 he played recurring roles in the series The Deuce and Bull . In addition to acting, he occasionally voices video game characters, including Red Dead Redemption and Batman: The Telltale Series .

Guyer lives and works in New York City.
